Re-Roofing at Saumarez, Armidale

22nd July 2025

SJ Baker Contract Works was recently engaged to complete a re-roofing project on a heritage-listed horse stable at the historic Saumarez property in Armidale. This job required a careful approach to preserve the integrity and character of the original building, while ensuring it was protected from the elements for years to come.

Working on a heritage-listed structure comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Our team took the time to understand the specific requirements involved in maintaining the building’s original appearance, while upgrading the roofing materials to modern standards for durability and performance.

The existing roof had reached the end of its life, showing signs of deterioration that could lead to structural issues if not addressed. We removed the old roofing carefully, assessed the underlying structure, and carried out any necessary repairs before installing the new roof. The finished result blends seamlessly with the historic character of the stables, ensuring the building’s appearance remains in keeping with its surroundings and heritage listing.

This project is a great example of how traditional buildings can be restored and protected with the right experience and attention to detail. We’re proud to have contributed to the preservation of such an important part of Armidale’s history.

If you have a heritage building or older structure in need of maintenance or repair, SJ Baker Contract Works has the experience to handle it with care.
